Extrovert guilt?
« on: July 06, 2010, 02:14:47 AM »

I've seen a number of posts here on introvert guilt. How about some examples of extrovert guilt ;-) Feel free to add

- I haven't seen any socially all week
- My birthday is coming up, but I really don't feel like having a party
- I didn't do anything this weekend. It's almost a month since I last went to a party
- I didn't really feel like taking my children to see this cartoon
- I only have 25 friends on Facebook(I am such a loser)
- I was so busy I actually had to eat lunch by myself
- I went to this party, but I could not connect with anyone. I didn't meet anybody new. What must people think of me...
- I really really want to see this movie, but I have nobody to go with...
- You are supposed to do loads on your vacation, so why do I just want to stay at the hotel
- I really should date somebody more cool

Haha...some of those would be devastating to many extroverts I know, but I don't think I've ever seen them express anything approaching guilt.    Those things would instead be said right out loud because it's "all about me" and they'd assume we'd want to hear all the details.

"Ooooh, I ate too many calories at lunch!  Now I'm going to have to blah blah blah blah... and I need to call so-and-so!  I haven't talked to her in blah blah blah.."    Wink

Maybe embarassement could also be a suitable definition(but, then - guilt and embarassement are closely associated I'd say)

Yes.  I know one I hear all the time is the superficial expression of regret that they haven't seen a certain relative or friend in a while.   Something is said along the lines of, "I need to get out and see her sometime," or worse still, "reach out to her."    Wink
