Not enough Dopamine? Is that POSSIBLE??
« on: January 05, 2009, 07:34:38 PM »
Hi all!

A key area of focus in the book, and this forum is the need to ?re-charge? our energy supplies as introverts. This ensures we don?t get too much dopamine and thus feel overstimulated. But my question involves the opposite.
Too little dopamine-is similarly ?bad?? If someone experiences very little external stimulation, and stays in the ?Throttle-down? system too much, (ie, too much acetylcholine, not enough dopamine) not only is it not ?re-charging?, but can lead them to feel depressed, unmotivated, etc.

Im concerned perhaps this is a factor in my current situation ? and any advice, thoughts, opinions would be greatly appreciated. Im thinking I spend too? Much time ?re-charging?, chilling out at and around the house (I find little reason to ?go out? without a practical reason, and currently am not finding many reasons!) ? and thus too little dopamine is perhaps affecting me?

I do remember Marti saying it was important to stay within the ?healthy dopamine range?, and im aware that often too much dopamine/external stimulation is the problem rather than the other way around, but your insights and thoughts on this would be greatly valued!

Like the Three Bears, I always have to seek "Just right".  If understimulated, yep, depression, lethargy, and just plain not getting the stuff of daily life done.  If overstimulated, the stuff I do is low quality and I have to fight off panic and too much adrenaline.  But I know all is right when I hit a "sweet spot" where stuff gets done and it is good quality stuff and I am in my productive "Mellow zone".  E's likewise have their productive "Hyper zone".

I wonder if this ties into Parkinson's Disease--which I believe they treat with synthetic dopamine--
